First prime the piece with black primer.

Then paint a base layer of blue.

Paint the extra parts any colors you want. It's supposed to look hobbled together so I picked random colors.

Use a sponge to dab black paint around the piece, focusing mainly around the windows where it looks like the metal has been cut away (and thus most likely to have paint worn away.

Paint silver INSIDE the black areas leaving a little black around the edges.

Add a shade paint. This is a dark, liquid paint that falls into cracks. I focused it around the bolts and edges of the metal so they look like they've been there a long time.

I also put some on the silver to darken it so the scrapes don't look so fresh.

I then use a dark brown paint on the bottom edges and around the windows for the rust.

Finally, I add a little orange dry paint on the very far edges to show the rust has become worse.
